Healthcare for those poor huddled masses you're always talking about

Up until a few years ago I worked as a server. I'd like to think that my last job, here, was the catalyst that pushed me into the cuisine I now enjoy.
However as wonderful as that job was, it had the same drawback that nearly every single hospitality, retail, or customer service job enjoys - an almost complete lack of healthcare . Sure it was offered to those employees who were lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you look at it) enough to maintain a full-time schedule, but the premiums were astronomical and the coverage shoddy, at best.
A restaurant in San Francisco has adopted a novel approach to providing their employees with healthcare though - attach a surcharge to each guest's bill. A mere $1.25 per diner and it covers the cost of providing each employee with health insurance.
Delfina's owner didn't simply want to raise the menu prices to cover the costs, he decided instead to include the consumer in the decision to make better choices for everyone.
I think it's admirable.
You can read the article about it here.

I'd pay the surcharge every time with a joyous smile. Kudos to Delfina's!
